Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a renowned ingredient that has been traditionally used to relief urinary tract infections. Its unique polyphenol, the Type-A Proanthocyanidins (PACs) is scientifically proven to exert strong anti-bacterial and anti-adhesion effects which could impair the adhesion abilities of E. coli. Cranberry extract is effective against both sensitive and antibiotic-resistant E. coli strains.
Change in the shape of the bacteria form (rod to spherical)
Alter the membrane structure of the bacteria
Reduce the mobility of the bacteria
Propolis is a natural resinous mixture collected by the bees from different plants. It possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-tumour, immuno-modulatory as well as antioxidant properties.
Combination of propolis and cranberry significantly enhanced the anti-adhesion effects of proanthocyanidins due to the bacteriostatic effect of propolis.1 This synergistic effect may help to reduce the recurrent infection in women.
